Terms of use
Short version: ShipSafe is a free engineering tool that reads public pages and reports what it finds. It is not a lawyer, it is not an audit, and you should only point it at something you are entitled to scan.
What ShipSafe is
ShipSafe fetches the address you give it, reads the pages it can reach, and reports on legal, security, SEO and monitoring readiness against Indian rules including the DPDP Act, RBI guidance and CERT-In directions. Every verdict is labelled verified, likely or needs your check, because automated reading of a webpage can establish some things and only suggest others. Treat those labels as the honest limit of what the tool knows.
What ShipSafe is not
It is not legal advice, and no part of a scan creates a lawyer-client relationship. It is not a certification, an audit, or evidence of compliance you can hand to a regulator. A clean ShipSafe report does not mean you are compliant, and a poor one does not mean you are in breach. It means a program read your public pages and formed an opinion. Decisions with legal consequence need a qualified professional who knows your specific facts.
Acceptable use
- Scan sites you own, or ones you have permission to test. Pointing a scanner at somebody else’s property without their agreement may be unlawful where you are.
- Do not use ShipSafe to look for weaknesses you intend to exploit.
- Do not attempt to defeat the rate limit, and do not automate the endpoint into a bulk scanning service.
Scans are limited to ten per minute per address. The limit exists because each scan makes real outbound requests to somebody’s server, and that cost should not be ours or theirs to absorb without bound.
Availability
ShipSafe is free and offered as is, with no uptime commitment. It may be slow, unavailable, or wrong about your site. Scans depend on reaching a third-party server that may block us, rate-limit us, or time out, in which case the scan fails rather than guessing.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, ShipSafe and its author are not liable for loss arising from your use of the tool or from reliance on a scan result, including any regulatory action, lost revenue or reputational harm. You use it at your own risk, on the understanding that it is a diagnostic aid and not a guarantee.
Source and licence
The source is public at github.com/abdash1994/shipsafe-india under the Business Source License 1.1. You are free to read it, run it, and modify it for non-production use. Offering it as a commercial hosted service is what the licence restricts. The full terms sit in the LICENSE file, and it is that file, not this paragraph, that governs.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, with courts at Bengaluru, Karnataka having jurisdiction.
